Luke Littler advances to fourth round of World Darts Championship after dominant win over Suljovic

Luke Littler delivers stunning performance against Mensur Suljovic

Luke Littler showcased his exceptional finishing skills by defeating Mensur Suljovic in a dominant display at Alexandra Palace, the match ending in a comprehensive 3-0 whitewash, reports BritPanorama.

The 18-year-old darting sensation demonstrated impressive precision, converting 71 per cent of his checkout opportunities, a statistic that came as a surprise even to him. After the match, Littler expressed his satisfaction, stating, “I’m really happy with it. The finishing was good – 71 per cent, I don’t think I’ve seen that in my PDC career.”

As the world No 1 and reigning champion, Littler swept Suljovic aside without losing a set, sending a clear message to his competitors that his form is peaking at the right time. His average of over 107 in this match marked the highest he has ever recorded in the World Championship.

Littler’s commanding performance began with a strong lead, taking the first six legs before Suljovic could even register a point. Despite Suljovic achieving a respectable average of 96, he was unable to match Littler’s intensity, managing to win only three legs throughout the contest. Criticism had previously been directed at Suljovic for his slow play, and this match further highlighted the contrast in their styles.

Reflecting on his performance, Littler noted that this was the most comfortable he has ever felt competing at the World Championship, surpassing even his remarkable title run last year. He explained, “That’s the best I’ve felt [at the World Championship], I think even last year’s tournament and the one before that.”

His ability to adapt to Suljovic’s paces was evident, as he remarked on finding a rhythm that matched the slower tempo of his opponent. “I felt so settled tonight. Mensur at his pace, I kind of got myself into a rhythm that matches it—slower than usual but it worked out,” he added.

Littler now advances to the last 16, where he will face either former world champion Rob Cross or Damon Heta. He has his sights firmly set on making history by becoming only the second player ever to defend the World Championship title successfully. Only Gary Anderson has achieved back-to-back titles in the sport’s premier event, a feat Littler could emulate if he continues in this vein.

In other darts news, it was a disappointing night for Stephen Bunting, whose tournament run ended unexpectedly against James Hurrell.

While the tournament progresses, Littler’s performance serves as a reminder of the fine line between confidence and expectation in the world of competitive darts — a space where youth and skill collide with tradition and experience.
