Luke Humphries hits remarkable nine-darter in World Masters victory

Luke Humphries delivered a stunning nine-darter as he secured a narrow 4-3 victory over Luke Woodhouse in the Winmau World Masters on Saturday night, reports BritPanorama.

The 30-year-old’s performance was marked by precision and poise, culminating in the nine-darter which electrified the crowd at the Milton Keynes venue. This win propels Humphries into the quarter-finals of the competition.

After the match, the world No 2 reflected on the taxing contest, admitting he was riding a wave of adrenaline. “It’s the third one in less than 12 months,” he noted, expressing satisfaction with his performance while simultaneously recognising the challenge posed by his opponent. “If you don’t win the match, it’s not worth anything,” he added.

Humphries acknowledged the pressure from Woodhouse throughout the match, praising him for demonstrating significant skill and composure. “He showed a lot of bottle to put me under pressure in every leg,” Humphries remarked, underscoring the competitive nature of the fixture. He will now face Dutchman Danny Noppert in the next round as the tournament continues to unfold.

In other matches, reigning World Champion Luke Littler advanced with a confident 4-1 win over Ross Smith, although not without incident. Littler called out a disruptive heckler who attempted to interfere with the game, referring to the individual as an ‘idiot’. His ability to remain focused amidst the distraction speaks to his composure at a young age in the sport.

The excitement of the World Masters is a reminder of how even in the heat of competition, distractions can emerge, and how players respond to these challenges can often define their success. In darts, every shot counts, but so too does maintaining one’s concentration in the face of adversity.
