Maria Sol Messi postpones wedding after serious accident
Lionel Messi’s sister, Maria Sol, has postponed her wedding scheduled for January 3 after being involved in a serious road accident in Miami, reports BritPanorama.
The 32-year-old sustained multiple injuries in the crash, including two fractured vertebrae, a broken heel, and damage to her wrist. Additionally, she suffered burns, which are noted to be particularly challenging to treat.
According to Argentinian television journalist Angel de Brito, Maria Sol’s mother confirmed that she is no longer in critical condition, but she faces an extended rehabilitation period. Initial reports suggested her burns might have resulted from a motorbike incident, although this remains unverified.
The accident occurred when Maria Sol lost control of her pick-up truck and collided with a wall; her mother, Celia Cuccittini, stated that Maria fainted prior to the impact. De Brito communicated messages from the family, revealing that although Maria Sol is out of danger, the wedding will indeed be postponed.
Maria Sol was set to marry Julian “Tuli” Arellano, who works as part of Inter Miami’s under-19 coaching team, in Rosario, the same city where Lionel Messi married Antonela Roccuzzo. The Messi family, including the football superstar, were expected to attend the ceremony.
Maria Sol has already started her rehabilitation programme back in Rosario. She is known for maintaining a relatively private life, having spent time in Spain before returning to Argentina to pursue her business ventures as a clothing designer and entrepreneur.
This unfortunate incident serves as a reminder of how quickly plans can change, and the unexpected hurdles that life can present, even for those tied to the world of sport.
