Lindsey Vonn suffers serious injury at Winter Olympics
New details have emerged following Lindsey Vonn’s horrendous crash at the Winter Olympics on Sunday, with the 41-year-old currently recovering in hospital from a fractured leg, reports BritPanorama.
The skier opted to take part in the Games despite rupturing her left ACL during a World Cup race in Switzerland at the end of January. However, her participation ended in disaster with Vonn crashing approximately 13 seconds into her downhill run.
The Team USA star clipped a gate with her right ski pole, lost balance, and crashed before screaming in agony. She was later airlifted to hospital, where she is now recovering. Observers noted the significant concern from her family, who were present during the incident.
Watching the horror unfold were her father, Alan Kildow, and her two sisters, Karin and Laura Kildow. Their reaction was one of panic and fear, with Karin reportedly screaming and Laura said to have recoiled at the sight of her sister’s crash.
It took around 10 minutes for Vonn to be airlifted from the scene, as onlookers waved their support during her transport. According to reports, Alan Kildow appeared visibly emotional, attempting to suppress his tears while silently taking in the gravity of the moment.
In the aftermath of the crash, family members sought solace from others around them. Laura shared that Snoop Dogg, who was present at the event, offered her words of encouragement: “Stay strong for Lindsey,” which she found comforting.
Karin added, “The people who dare greatly are the ones that should be admired, and she dared greatly. She put it all on the line.” Vonn, a prominent figure in winter sports, previously made history as the first American woman to win Olympic gold in downhill skiing at the 2010 Vancouver Games.
Despite a remarkable career that includes 82 World Cup victories and multiple surgeries, Vonn announced her retirement in 2019. However, after a successful knee replacement and fueled by her competitive spirit, she returned to define age expectations by qualifying for this year’s Games.
