Lindsey Vonn shares recovery update after surgery
Lindsey Vonn has provided a recovery update following her recent surgery after sustaining a significant leg injury during the Winter Olympics, reports BritPanorama.
The 41-year-old Olympian announced via Instagram that she underwent a third surgery to repair her leg, having previously competed with a torn ACL in her left knee. Vonn stated that this injury did not contribute to the accident that led to her broken tibia during the downhill final in Cortina.
“I had my third surgery today and it was successful. Success today has a completely different meaning than it did a few days ago. I’m making progress and while it is slow, I know I’ll be okay,” she remarked.
Vonn suffered the injury on February 8 after hitting a plastic marker while competing, resulting in her leg appearing to hit the ground first. Following the accident, she was airlifted off the mountain amid significant concern for her well-being.
Medical teams noted that Vonn was in considerable pain upon assessment, which prompted immediate action for her transfer to the hospital. Dr. Thomas Spallinger commented on the situation, stating that her injuries required swift medical attention.
Reflecting on her aspirations, Vonn expressed gratitude for support from her medical team, friends, and family, alongside words of encouragement for her teammates: “Also, huge congrats to my teammates and all of the Team USA athletes who are out there inspiring me and giving me something to cheer for.”
