Hamilton showcases resilience with podium finish in Shanghai

Lewis Hamilton has issued a strong message to his Formula One competitors, declaring he is ‘back to his best’ after securing a gritty third-place finish at the Chinese Grand Prix, reports BritPanorama.

The 41-year-old driver demonstrated tenacity in Shanghai, managing to fend off teammate Charles Leclerc in an intense duel over much of the race. This podium finish marks a significant milestone for Hamilton during his season with Ferrari.

This result comes as a notable comeback for Hamilton, as it is his first podium since the Las Vegas Grand Prix in November 2024, underscoring his optimism about reclaiming peak performance levels.

“I definitely feel like I’m back to my best, both mentally and physically,” Hamilton stated after the race. He acknowledged the challenges posed by the competitive landscape, indicating that the pursuit of podium finishes has become increasingly arduous throughout his career.

Hamilton reflected on the strenuous nature of his training over the winter, describing it as the most intense he has experienced, particularly as he adapts to the physical demands at his age. He noted that this rigour has reinforced his determination, despite the heightened challenges in securing podium finishes.

This result is especially rewarding following a challenging first season with Ferrari, characterised by disappointing performances and a struggle to adapt. Hamilton previously labelled that campaign a ‘nightmare’ as he encountered issues with car performance and personal frustration.

A notable turnaround for both Hamilton and Ferrari appears to have been achieved over the winter. The team has developed a more competitive car that aligns better with Hamilton’s driving style, while he has rediscovered the confidence and aggression that characterised his earlier successes.

“I started this journey and this dream of moving to Ferrari to stand on the podium with them. This moment has taken longer than I hoped,” he remarked, expressing pride in contributing to the team’s progress. He also emphasised his ongoing learning curve with the car, suggesting there remains potential for further performance gains.

On the subject of Formula One’s new regulations, which have sparked mixed reactions among drivers, Hamilton expressed a contrasting viewpoint. He stated, “I think it’s the best racing I’ve ever experienced in Formula One,” highlighting the improved racing dynamics and his positive personal experiences behind the wheel.

As the season unfolds, Hamilton’s resurgence signals that even the most decorated athletes can face adversity but emerge reinvigorated, a testament to both his skill and resolve.
