Leicester City delays December wages for staff
Leicester City employees have been informed that their December wages will not be disbursed until New Year’s Eve, departing from the club’s long-held practice of paying staff in advance of the holiday season, reports BritPanorama.
The decision has sparked anger and frustration among workers at King Power Stadium as it could jeopardize their ability to provide for their families during the festive period.
The Championship side has indicated that this change is necessary to align payment schedules across the broader King Power Group, which owns the club. However, there are concerns that the timing will burden staff financially over the holidays.
One supporter remarked to the Telegraph, “A friend of mine received an email and told me lots of club staff have no funds for Christmas now and their families will go without gifts.” In a communication to employees, interim managing director Kamonthip Netthanomsak acknowledged the change, stating, “We can appreciate that the timing of this decision is not ideal and that staff may subsequently have financial commitments.”
The club expressed its willingness to offer support to any staff affected by these delays, as this shift comes with the intent to unify payroll dates across the organisation. Notably, reports suggest that this delay is not indicative of any financial difficulties at the club, but rather a logistical issue that could have been communicated more effectively.
Leicester City, once crowned Premier League champions in an extraordinary campaign in 2016, currently finds itself in the Championship, sitting eighth in the standings. It remains to be seen how these payroll changes might impact staff morale and the club’s public image moving forward.
For a club that transformed its fortunes so dramatically in the last decade, this latest issue serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing challenges that can arise in football, where the off-field implications often compete with the high-stakes drama on the pitch.
