Lando Norris wins first Formula 1 world championship in Abu Dhabi

Lando Norris sealed his first Formula 1 World Championship in dramatic fashion at the weekend, clinching the title by just two points after a nail-biting Abu Dhabi finale, reports BritPanorama.

The moment was made even more special by his heartfelt team radio message following his third-place finish at the Yas Marina Circuit: “I love you Mum, I love you Dad.”

In a touching scene in the paddock, Norris’s McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri, despite his own disappointment at missing out on the championship, showed real class by embracing Norris’s parents, Adam and Cisca, to congratulate them on their son’s triumph.

Adam Norris returned the gesture, congratulating Piastri on a brilliant season that saw him claim seven grand prix victories.

Speaking to Sky Sports F1 after his son’s victory, Adam revealed the scale of their journey together: “I’ve done 400 races with Lando.” Lando’s mother, Cisca, who is Belgian, has been described as the emotional heartbeat of the Norris household, providing balance to the intense world of motorsport.

The family’s multicultural background has shaped Lando’s outlook and resilience, creating a bilingual environment that contributed to his calm demeanor both on and off the track. “No, at the beginning it wasn’t [about becoming world champion]. At the beginning, it was just having fun,” Adam remarked, highlighting their approach to the sport.

Adam Norris, who founded Pensions Direct in 1998, is believed to have a net worth of around £200 million, having helped grow the business into the UK’s largest direct-to-consumer pension retailer. His financial success allowed him the freedom to support Lando’s racing career, which began in go-karting and involved extensive travel internationally.

Reflecting on their journey, Adam noted the sacrifices involved, “A lot of travelling around the world…to go-kart tracks, it was an amazing journey, really good fun, went to weird and wonderful places at odd times.” This emphasis on enjoyment and passion was a key factor in Lando’s success in securing the championship.

As the motorsport community celebrates Norris’s achievement, it serves as a reminder of how the sport can transcend mere competition, encapsulating personal journeys, family support, and unwavering ambition.
