Jurgen Klopp to return to Liverpool dugout for Legends match
Jurgen Klopp is set to make an emotional return to the Liverpool dugout on 28 March when he serves as assistant manager for the Reds’ Legends fixture against Borussia Dortmund, reports BritPanorama.
The 58-year-old German, who departed his role as Liverpool boss 18 months ago following nearly nine years in charge, will work alongside Sir Kenny Dalglish at Anfield for the charity match. The fixture aims to generate funds for the LFC Foundation, the club’s charitable arm, and Forever Reds, Liverpool’s official association for former players.
Dalglish had previously been announced as manager for the home side, with Klopp confirmed as part of his coaching staff. Joining Klopp in supporting Dalglish will be two other Anfield legends, Ian Rush and John Aldridge, completing the backroom team for the evening.
During his tenure at Anfield, Klopp secured seven major trophies, making him one of the most decorated managers in the club’s history. His crowning achievement came in 2019 when Liverpool lifted the Champions League, followed by the club’s first league championship in three decades the following season.
Klopp holds a unique distinction at Liverpool as the only manager to have won all four major honours with the club: the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, and League Cup. His departure in 2024 marked the end of a transformative era at Anfield.
The fixture carries particular emotional weight for Klopp, given his history with the opposition. Before arriving on Merseyside, he spent seven years managing Borussia Dortmund, where he built his reputation as one of European football’s most exciting coaches.
The March encounter will therefore see him reunited with both clubs that defined his managerial career on the European stage. Who comes out on top remains to be seen.
In this unique setting, past glories and future hopes converge, capturing the essence of what football—and perhaps life—truly means for its most passionate followers.
