Jude Bellingham shares insights from his shoulder surgery in new documentary
Jude Bellingham has released a revealing documentary on his YouTube channel, offering viewers unprecedented access to his shoulder operation at Fortius Clinic in London last July, reports BritPanorama.
The seven-minute film, titled ‘Jude – Under The Knife’, provides a behind-the-scenes look into the operating theatre where the Real Madrid midfielder underwent a two-hour procedure on July 16, 2025.
Footage highlights the 22-year-old England international as he is placed under anaesthesia, surrounded by medical staff preparing for the surgery. The visuals include moments that capture the surgery process while his shoulder remained immobilised.
Surgeon Andy Wallace is seen discussing the procedure with Bellingham before the operation, which comes after a history of shoulder dislocations dating back to his time at Borussia Dortmund. Bellingham first damaged his left shoulder at the beginning of the 2022-23 season and, rather than opting for immediate surgery, he postponed the procedure to participate in the Qatar World Cup that winter, where he became England’s youngest goalscorer at the tournament.
Since then, he has faced repeated dislocations during his tenure at Real Madrid, with incidents occurring in both 2023 and 2024. The surgery was eventually conducted a week after Real Madrid’s exit from the Club World Cup last summer. Bellingham described the psychological burden of living with the unstable joint, stating, “It’s the most anxious I’ve been about anything, the hardest feeling I’ve had before something.”
The uncertainty around his shoulder stability was a persistent concern. “It’s the instability of knowing that if I land funny, it can always come out,” he explained. A particularly traumatic moment occurred against Rayo Vallecano in November 2023, which he recalled as “probably the most painful thing I’ve been through at the time.” Bellingham struggled to reset the dislocated shoulder, leading to a tense 90 seconds before the medical team could assist him.
The prolonged reliance on a protective brace took a toll on his body. Bellingham noted: “Wearing the brace means that other parts of my body have to compensate for the lack of use that my shoulder can do.” This led to serious consequences, including a herniated disc on the same side as his injured shoulder, resulting in debilitating back pain. Now recovered, he expressed optimism for his future, stating, “Being back to my best physically will aid all that into coming into one and seeing the best of me, hopefully.”
Bellingham’s journey reflects the complex intersection of sport and personal health, underscoring the often unseen challenges athletes face in their pursuit of excellence.
