John Cena announced as WrestleMania 42 host
John Cena has announced his return to WWE as the host of WrestleMania 42, scheduled for 18 and 19 April in Las Vegas, reports BritPanorama.
This unexpected announcement comes just months after the 48-year-old retired in December following an emotional farewell tour. Cena took to social media to share his excitement, declaring, “Since retirement, my ‘road’ has looked a little different… but now I can officially say I’m headed to WrestleMania!!!! See you in Las Vegas!”
WWE confirmed the news quickly, acknowledging Cena as “the GOAT.” Accompanying his statement was a video shot on the set of his latest Netflix project, “One Attempt Remaining,” where he explained that his Hollywood work set the stage for this new role.
In the video, Cena remarked, “I’m also on the road… which is ironic because there’s a road to WrestleMania going on, and Hollywood is close to Vegas.” His retirement came after a farewell year that included significant matches against prominent opponents such as Cody Rhodes and Brock Lesnar, concluding with a loss to Gunther at Saturday Night’s Main Event.
The farewell tour had notable successes, most prominently at WrestleMania 41, where he secured a record-breaking 17th world championship by defeating Cody Rhodes. WrestleMania 42 is expected to feature an impressive card, with CM Punk defending his World Heavyweight Championship against Roman Reigns, while Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton vie for the Undisputed WWE Championship.
The women’s division promises excitement too, featuring Jade Cargill against Rhea Ripley for the WWE Women’s Championship and Stephanie Vaquer taking on Liv Morgan for the Women’s World Championship. Other matches include Brock Lesnar facing Oba Femi and a clash between Jacob Fatu and Drew McIntyre.
For wrestling fans, Cena’s announcement serves as a reminder of the ever-changing landscape of WWE, where comebacks and surprises remain a hallmark of the entertainment spectacle.
