Jockey Robbie Dunne hospitalized after fall at Grand National
Jockey Robbie Dunne was rushed to hospital following a heavy fall during this afternoon’s Grand National at Aintree, though officials confirmed he remained conscious and able to communicate as he was transported by ambulance, reports BritPanorama.
Dunne came down while riding Stellar Story in what ITV Racing described as a nasty incident during the showpiece event.
The race was won by the pre-race favourite I Am Maximus, though celebrations were tempered by concerns for those injured on the famous Aintree fences. Several horses required veterinary attention following falls during the race, prompting anxious moments for spectators.
Top Of The Bill, ridden by Toby McCain-Mitchell, initially sparked serious concern when assessed on the course by the expert veterinary team, but he subsequently recovered and walked back to the stables.
Quai De Bourbon fell early in the race and appeared unwell before being transported via horse ambulance for examination at the stables. Mr Vango is also currently undergoing assessment by veterinary staff. Patrick Mullins, who won last year’s Grand National aboard Nick Rockett, received physiotherapy treatment after being unseated by Grangeclare West at the opening fence.
The incidents cast a shadow over the final day of the Aintree Festival, reflecting the inherent risks of such high-stakes racing. Already, the festival had witnessed tragedy in preceding days, with Get On George being humanely destroyed after pulling up, and Gold Dancer suffering a fatality during Friday’s racing.
In a realm where the thrill of victory is often matched by the perils of the sport, today’s events serve as a stark reminder of the delicate balance between human ambition and the unpredictable nature of horse racing.
