James Maddison shows frustration towards YouTuber after dramatic late equaliser in Tottenham draw

Late drama in Tottenham clash with Manchester United

James Maddison was left visibly unimpressed after a jubilant celebration from YouTuber Morgan Burtwistle, known online as Angry Ginge, during Tottenham’s dramatic 2-2 draw with Manchester United on Saturday, reports BritPanorama.

The injured Tottenham midfielder was watching from the stands when Matthijs de Ligt’s 96th-minute header denied Spurs what had appeared to be a remarkable comeback victory. The match seemed decisively in Tottenham’s favour, with Mathys Tel equalising Bryan Mbeumo’s opener before Richarlison struck in stoppage time, sending the home crowd into celebration.

Tottenham fans surrounded Maddison were on their feet as the playmaker celebrated, while Burtwistle, a vocal United supporter, sat with his eyes closed in frustration. However, as the clock moved past the fifth minute of added time, the game shifted dramatically when De Ligt rose to meet a looping cross and directed his header beyond the Tottenham goalkeeper, leading to contrasting emotions.

In the aftermath of the late equaliser, Burtwistle exploded from his seat, yelling in triumph and recording himself celebrating beside Maddison. This prompted a brief awkward exchange; as the Tottenham player raised his arm to push Burtwistle’s hand down, his frustration was evident without being aggressive. Their brief look at each other indicated a shared understanding of the match’s gravity.

Although Maddison remained seated, visibly frustrated, he extended a handshake to Burtwistle when the final whistle sounded, showing that their friendship endured despite the earlier tension. The two have known each other since collaborating on a promotional video nearly two years ago, often seen together at matches and events.

Despite the incident providing a moment of levity, it highlighted Maddison’s ongoing frustration in being sidelined. Currently rehabilitating from an anterior cruciate ligament injury sustained in pre-season, he has not played this season. His absence has been significantly felt for Spurs as they seek to maintain momentum in a competitive Premier League.

The draw means both Tottenham and Manchester United remain level on points, each having earned 18 this season. Tottenham will next face Arsenal on November 24 in what promises to be an explosive north London derby, while United will take on Everton the following day at 8pm.

As Tottenham navigates this period of uncertainty without Maddison, it remains a reminder of how the margins in football can shift dramatically, revealing the nuanced dynamics of friendship amidst rivalry.
