Jack Grealish uses injury layoff to pursue DJ ambitions

Everton winger Jack Grealish has turned his injury layoff into an opportunity to develop his skills behind the decks, reports BritPanorama.

The 30-year-old, known by his stage name DJ Grealo, is receiving guidance from Shayne Given, the 21-year-old son of former Newcastle United goalkeeper Shay Given. Friends indicate that Shayne has been conducting coaching sessions at Grealish’s home in Cheshire.

The sidelined player has found himself with significant free time following foot surgery last month that has ruled him out of World Cup contention. Grealish’s love for music has been apparent since his youth, and he publicly entered the music scene in 2023 with a performance in the metaverse.

His debut was on the OKX Collective platform, where he appeared as a virtual avatar alongside the renowned Dutch producer Oliver Heldens. Speaking about his musical aspirations at the time, Grealish noted, “I’ve always loved music since I was young. This is why I want to learn to DJ.”

Grealish’s last appearance for Everton came in a 1-0 victory against Aston Villa on 18 January. Initially reporting discomfort in his left calf to the club’s medical staff, subsequent examinations revealed a much more severe stress fracture in his left foot.

The injury necessitated surgical intervention, effectively ending his season prematurely and quashing any hopes of representing England at the World Cup. Following the operation, Grealish expressed his disappointment on social media, stating, “Didn’t want the season to end like this but that’s football, gutted.” He added, “Surgery done and now all focus on getting back fit. I know for sure I will come back fitter, stronger and better than before.”

Despite this setback, Grealish remains determined to make a full recovery and has embraced the downtime by dedicating himself to mastering the turntables under Shayne’s mentorship. The younger Given, who is also an established presence on the North West club circuit, is currently in his final year at Manchester Metropolitan University, balancing his academic responsibilities with a burgeoning DJ career.

As the world of football witnesses the intersection of sport and personal passion, the experience underscores how athletes like Grealish navigate adversity, illustrating that creativity and resilience can flourish even in challenging times.
