Igor Tudor remains tight-lipped on future after defeat

Igor Tudor declined to confirm whether he will still be managing Tottenham for their upcoming fixtures following a damaging 3-1 home loss to Crystal Palace that has pushed the club perilously close to the relegation places, reports BritPanorama.

The interim manager, who took over from Thomas Frank, appeared visibly irritated during his post-match media duties after a result that leaves Spurs hovering just a single point above the drop zone with nine matches remaining this season.

Asked further about his position, Tudor stated: “I don’t think in that direction, I have a job to do, that’s all.”

The atmosphere grew increasingly fractious when TNT Sports reporter Liam MacDevitt pressed Tudor on whether Micky van de Ven’s first-half dismissal stemmed from the immense strain his squad faces in their battle against the drop. “We need to stop speaking about pressure,” Tudor responded curtly. “This is not a topic to speak about.”

MacDevitt persisted, pointing out the precarious league position: “Do you not feel like there is pressure?” The Croatian shut down any further discussion on the matter: “I won’t speak any more about pressure.”

Despite suffering a third consecutive defeat since his appointment, Tudor made the peculiar assertion that his confidence in the squad had actually grown. “It sounds strange, but I believe more after this game than I believed before,” the interim boss declared.

Tudor employed a nautical analogy to challenge his players’ commitment: “I need to choose the right guys because the boat is going in the direction I want it to go and needs to go and who is in the boat can stay. Otherwise, they can leave the boat.”

He expressed certainty that victories would follow once returning players bolster his options, adding: “It’s about believing and growing. There are still nine games to play.”

Tudor attributed the collapse to a pivotal moment when Van de Ven received his marching orders for hauling down Ismaila Sarr as the Palace forward bore down on goal. Dominic Solanke had given Spurs the lead before the dismissal, but the visitors scored three times in 20 minutes to seal the points.

Supporters made their displeasure known, with some departing before the interval while those remaining jeered the players both at half-time and full-time. Spurs, sitting 16th, now face Atletico Madrid in their Champions League last-16 first leg on Tuesday before travelling to Liverpool the following Sunday, seeking to end an 11-match winless run.

With the club precariously positioned just one point clear of Nottingham Forest and West Ham, the coming days will be crucial for both Tudor and Spurs as they navigate the pressures of the closing season.
