Tudor criticizes Fulham players and referee after Tottenham loss
Igor Tudor launched a scathing attack following Tottenham’s loss to Fulham on Sunday, directing criticism at his squad before turning his ire towards their opponents and the match official, reports BritPanorama.
The interim Spurs manager accused Fulham of “cheating” and branded referee Thomas Bramall a “home team referee” in his post-match assessment. The north London club’s frustration stemmed from perceived inconsistency in officiating decisions.
Just seven days prior, Spurs had a goal disallowed against Arsenal when Randal Kolo Muani was judged to have pushed Gabriel Magalhaes. Tudor’s tenure at the helm now reflects a troubling start, with two defeats from his opening matches in charge.
In this London derby, Tudor opted for a back four, but his side found themselves trailing within the opening seven minutes as Harry Wilson netted the decisive goal for the Cottagers. Tottenham was incensed by the build-up, as Raul Jimenez appeared to shove Radu Dragusin prior to the goal, yet Bramall allowed it to stand.
Tudor expressed disbelief in his post-match comments, stating: “Of course it’s a foul. Nine out of 10 people will say it’s a foul, I believe, because it’s so obvious. Sometimes the criteria don’t have consistency. Last week what happened in our game against Arsenal, same thing.” He further accused Jimenez of intending to cheat, suggesting the goal should not have counted.
Tudor added in his BBC Match of the Day interview: “I didn’t like the referee today, too much of a home team referee. I didn’t feel well with him. All the decisions were on their side. He doesn’t understand football, the feeling of what is wrong and what is right.” Fulham managed to double their advantage in the 34th minute when Alex Iwobi fired in from distance, and despite a late goal from Spurs substitute Richarlison, their winless run extended to a record-equalling ten Premier League games.
Tottenham’s position remains precarious, sitting just above the relegation zone, especially as West Ham lost to Liverpool over the weekend, remaining four points adrift. Tudor acknowledged the myriad challenges his side faces: “The problems are much bigger… We need to find the voices inside each of us.”
Fulham’s manager Marco Silva, however, was unfazed by the controversy surrounding the opening goal, asserting that victory was fully deserved. “The score should be different with the amount of chances we created. Great performance from us,” he said, highlighting Fulham’s dominant display in the match.
As Tottenham continues to struggle, it’s evident how the pressure mounts with each passing week, a reminder of how fortunes in football can shift swiftly, leaving managerial tenures hanging by a thread.
