Tottenham draws with Liverpool as Richarlison strikes late
Tottenham Hotspur secured a dramatic late equaliser at Liverpool, with Richarlison finding the net in the 90th minute, halting Spurs’ six-match losing streak in all competitions, reports BritPanorama.
Dominik Szoboszlai had put Liverpool ahead with a first-half free-kick, but Tottenham’s persistence paid off as they clinched a deserved draw at Anfield. This result offers a much-needed reprieve for a Tottenham side that has suffered heavily from injuries and has faced increasing pressure.
The late strike was a breath of fresh air for Tottenham boss Igor Tudor, who expressed relief at the outcome, stating it was significant for the players’ confidence. “Nice – like some fresh air,” Tudor remarked, emphasising the resilience of his squad despite missing numerous first-team players.
Tudor noted the importance of teamwork, saying, “We showed a good team spirit considering the circumstances… We stayed in the game and believed we could score.” This draw comes after criticism mounted following a 5-2 loss to Atletico Madrid earlier in the week, yet Tudor dismissed speculation about his future, insisting he has never dwelled on such matters during his coaching career.
“I have been coaching for 15 years and I have never thought one second about my future,” he stated firmly, reiterating his focus on the present and the task at hand. However, his interaction with the media turned confrontational when pressed about comments suggesting the need for a new manager, leading to an abrupt end to the interview.
Meanwhile, Liverpool manager Arne Slot defended the reaction of the home crowd, who booed at full-time following the late equaliser. “If the team you support drop so many points in the last seconds of games like we have, then frustration is natural,” Slot explained, acknowledging the shared disappointment felt by fans and players alike.
This match highlighted the stark contrasts in sentiment between the two clubs. While Tottenham can take solace from a hard-fought point, Liverpool continues to grapple with its own frustrations, reminding everyone that in football, hope often hangs by the finest of threads.
