Harry Redknapp expresses interest in Tottenham managerial vacancy

Harry Redknapp has thrown his name into the mix for the Tottenham job after Thomas Frank was given the boot on Wednesday morning, reports BritPanorama.

The 78-year-old, who managed Spurs between 2008 and 2012, indicated his enthusiasm for a potential return to the role. Speaking to Sky Sports, Redknapp stated, “Would I fancy it? Of course I would do it, without any shadow of a doubt.”

While he expresses a strong desire to lead the club again, Redknapp acknowledged that he is not holding his breath for the opportunity. “They’ve got my number. If anyone wants to ring me, they know where I am,” he added.

Redknapp believes he possesses the capability to turn things around for Spurs, despite doubting whether he would actually be offered the job. “But I am a realist – I don’t live in (cloud) cuckoo land. It is very doubtful if I would get the job,” he admitted, while affirming that he could indeed handle the role.

He suggested that Spurs need to focus on the fundamentals, advocating for a return to basic principles of hard work and teamwork. “What they need now is someone to go in, get down to basics, hard work – when you lose the ball, don’t be embarrassed to run and try to get it back,” he explained.

Frank’s departure followed a disappointing 2-1 loss to Newcastle, with fans voicing their discontent both at half-time and at the final whistle. This season has been challenging for Spurs, who have failed to secure a single Premier League victory in 2026, leaving them in 16th place and just five points above the relegation zone.

The club’s next match presents a crucial challenge, as they face their rivals Arsenal on February 22, a game that will significantly test the new management, should a replacement be appointed by then. Other potential candidates for the vacant position now include Roberto De Zerbi, the former Brighton manager who recently parted ways with Marseille.

For now, John Heitinga, who was Frank’s assistant, could temporarily fill the gap while the club searches for a permanent replacement. Former Spurs manager Glenn Hoddle expressed sympathy for Frank, highlighting the challenges he faced due to injuries to key players, stating, “He’s had some crippling injuries to a lot of talented players he couldn’t call upon – a big reason why we didn’t see him flourish at Spurs.”

The situation at Tottenham emphasizes a theme familiar in football: the fleeting nature of managerial stability. The club finds itself at a pivotal moment, where the right decision could be the difference between recovery and further decline.
