Harry Maguire has turned down a lucrative approach from David Beckham’s Inter Miami to commit his future to Manchester United, reports BritPanorama.

The 33-year-old centre-back, whose contract was set to expire this summer, has penned a one-year extension with the option for an additional 12 months at Old Trafford. Maguire’s decision marks a significant commitment to the club amid ongoing speculation regarding his future.

Italian champions Napoli had also expressed interest in acquiring the England international. Despite the appeal of playing alongside Lionel Messi in the United States, Maguire reportedly had no interest in moving to MLS.

In a statement following the renewal, Maguire expressed confidence in the club’s ambitions, saying, “The determination throughout the whole club to fight for major trophies is clear for everyone to see and I am confident that our best moments together remain ahead of us.” He highlighted the promising potential of the current squad, which he feels strongly about.

Having made 266 appearances for the Red Devils since joining from Leicester City in 2019 for a world-record fee of £85 million, this contract renewal comes after an extraordinary turnaround for Maguire following a tough period, which included being stripped of his captaincy by former manager Erik ten Hag in 2023.

This season, under interim manager Michael Carrick, Maguire has re-established himself as a key player, starting in all matches since Carrick’s appointment. Despite a bid from West Ham falling through due to salary disputes, his recent performances have cemented his role within the squad.

Maguire has also resumed his place in the England national team under manager Thomas Tuchel following an 18-month absence from international duty, reflecting his recovery from earlier injury concerns. As he aims for coaching qualifications alongside his playing career, he remarked, “Representing Manchester United is the ultimate honour. It is a responsibility that makes myself and my family proud every single day.”

With the renewal, the club’s director of football, Jason Wilcox, praised Maguire’s resilience and professionalism. “Harry represents the mentality and resilience required to perform for Manchester United,” Wilcox stated. “He brings invaluable experience and leadership to our young, ambitious squad.” However, Maguire will miss the upcoming Premier League clash against Leeds due to suspension from a red card received in last month’s match against Bournemouth.

In a football landscape where narratives can shift rapidly, Maguire’s journey illustrates both the volatility of player careers and the enduring loyalty that can exist between a player and club. It’s a reminder that even amidst change, the connection to a club’s heritage can define a player’s future.
