Tiger Woods supporters rally at Houston Open amid recent arrest

Supporters of Tiger Woods made their presence felt at the Texas Children’s Houston Open on Sunday, despite the 15-time major champion being absent from the tournament, reports BritPanorama.

In the wake of his arrest in Jupiter, Florida, a group of spectators drew attention by wearing white t-shirts featuring Woods’ police booking photograph. This image depicted a bleary-eyed Woods, with the hashtag “#FreeTiger” printed underneath.

Woods, 50, was taken into custody on Friday, approximately 1,300 miles away from the Houston venue where his dedicated fans gathered. After attempting to overtake a truck and trailer at speed, his SUV collided with the rear of the vehicle, resulting in the truck overturning onto its side.

Following the incident, Woods escaped through the passenger window. Authorities at the scene administered a breathalyser test, which he passed, but he declined to provide a urine sample, refusing the test a second time when he arrived at the jail. Subsequently, he was charged with driving under the influence, property damage, and refusing to submit to a lawful test.

Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek noted that Woods displayed a measured approach during questioning, indicating he was cooperative while being careful not to incriminate himself. Drug recognition specialists at the scene found no signs of alcohol impairment, although it was suspected he might have been influenced by medication or another substance.

This latest incident adds to Woods’ troubled history, which includes suffering severe leg injuries in a 2021 California crash. Currently, it remains uncertain whether Woods will compete at the Masters next month. The display of support from fans at the Houston Open echoes similar sentiments observed during the PGA Championship two years ago, when Scottie Scheffler found himself in a difficult situation but returned to complete his round.

The ongoing developments surrounding Woods serve as a reminder of the thin line athletes often tread in the public eye—always in pursuit of redemption, yet under the persistent scrutiny of celebrity culture.
