Gian van Veen withdraws from Premier League Darts event due to health issues
Gian van Veen has been forced to withdraw from tonight’s Premier League Darts event in Dublin following a hospital admission for kidney stones, reports BritPanorama.
The Dutch star, who is currently ranked third in the world, will miss Night Seven at the 3Arena after receiving his diagnosis. He was admitted to hospital on Wednesday morning, with symptoms first emerging the previous Sunday.
Van Veen has had a strong campaign thus far, securing six victories in the competition and occupying fourth position in the Premier League standings, trailing only Jonny Clayton, Luke Littler, and Gerwyn Price at the top of the table.
The Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) confirmed his absence in a statement: “Gian van Veen has withdrawn from Thursday’s BetMGM Premier League in Dublin after being diagnosed with kidney stones.” He expressed his frustration on social media, stating, “This is not the message I wanted to write. Right up until the last moment, getting on that stage tonight was everything I was working towards, but sometimes things are simply out of your hands.”
Reflecting on his health struggle, Van Veen noted the situation was entirely beyond his control, revealing he hopes to be discharged soon. He conveyed deep disappointment to his fans, stating, “To the fans in Dublin and Ireland: I am truly sorry. You are one of the crowds I look forward to the most and it genuinely hurts to miss this one.”
Fans have expressed their support on social media, with many wishing him a speedy recovery. One fan remarked, “The most important thing is your health. Get well soon.” Van Veen has pledged to return to the stage, stating: “I hope we get another chance soon, because I will definitely be there.” As the buzz around the Premier League intensifies, his absence will undoubtedly be felt, yet the hope for his return serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of sports.
