Garbine Muguruza welcomes first child

Former Wimbledon champion Garbine Muguruza has welcomed her first child with husband Arthur Borges. The couple announced the arrival of baby boy Marcos Borges Muguruza, describing him as “our little miracle,” reports BritPanorama.

The newborn is now one week old, with Muguruza sharing the joyful news alongside a sweet photo that attracted more than 20,000 likes on social media. Former tennis stars quickly rushed to congratulate the new parents, reflecting the depth of admiration for Muguruza’s accomplishments on and off the court.

Ex-US Open winner Flavia Pennetta wrote, “Happy birthday, wonderful,” while Caroline Garcia extended her congratulations to the couple. The heartfelt responses underscore *how much Muguruza’s circle values their milestone*.

The story of how Muguruza and Borges met adds a romantic backdrop to their new chapter. Back in 2021, while competing at the US Open, Muguruza took a stroll near her hotel in Central Park, where she bumped into Borges. He wished her luck in the tournament, leaving her taken aback by his charm. “I go out and I run into him on the street… I was left thinking, ‘Wow, he’s so handsome,'” she recalled.

It was love at first sight for both, leading to a proposal in Marbella, Spain, where Borges got down on one knee. “It felt weird. I was thinking something else and then when he proposed I started crying,” Muguruza said. The couple tied the knot in October 2024, with Muguruza describing their wedding day as “a total movie.”

Muguruza’s post-retirement ventures are also noteworthy; she has been appointed tournament director of the WTA Finals in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This role aligns with her commitment to grow tennis in the Middle East and inspire young women to pursue their dreams, showcasing her dedication to the sport even after hanging up her racket.

With two Grand Slam titles to her name, including her Wimbledon win in 2017 against Venus Williams, Muguruza’s legacy in tennis continues to flourish even as she embraces motherhood. The journey ahead promises both challenges and rewards, reflecting how personal milestones so often intertwine with professional aspirations.
