Ezequiel Schelotto extinguishes fire during match
Former Premier League star Ezequiel Schelotto sprang into action during FC Paradiso’s weekend fixture when flames erupted near the goal during their clash with FC Bavois, reports BritPanorama.
The 36-year-old Argentine defender, who is now the captain of the Swiss third-division side, swiftly grabbed a hose from the touchline and tackled the blaze himself.
Footage shared on social media showed the fire breaking out beside a supporter’s banner, close to one of the goals and a car park at Campo Pian Scairolo. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire remains unknown, but the incident did not detract from the match, with Paradiso securing a 2-1 victory.
Schelotto’s efforts come six years after the conclusion of his Premier League career at Brighton, where he made 28 top-flight appearances between 2017 and 2020. His time in England included a memorable rivalry with Crystal Palace, notably during a tense encounter when he clashed with Wilfried Zaha.
After leaving Brighton, Schelotto returned to Argentina before rejoining European football in 2023. Following a stint with Serie B side Barletta, he took on the captaincy at Paradiso, further demonstrating his commitment to the sport.
The incident serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of football, where even amidst the excitement of a match, unforeseen events can unfold, reflecting the true spirit of sport and community resilience.
