Chelsea’s struggles deepen with Everton defeat

Chelsea’s dismal run continued on Saturday evening as David Moyes’ Everton side delivered a comprehensive 3-0 victory at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, inflicting a fourth successive defeat on the struggling visitors, reports BritPanorama.

The result heaps significant pressure on Blues manager Liam Rosenior, whose team failed to capitalise on an opportunity to climb into the top four or five of the Premier League table. Chelsea remain rooted in sixth position following another disappointing performance, with their defensive frailties once again exposed against a well-organised Everton outfit chasing European qualification.

The Toffees thoroughly deserved all three points after dominating proceedings throughout the contest. Beto proved the difference for the hosts, netting twice to torment the Chelsea rearguard.

His opener arrived in the 35th minute when he latched onto a sublime through ball from England call-up Garner, lifting the ball delicately over the onrushing Sanchez. The Portuguese striker’s second goal epitomised Chelsea’s evening of misery, as inexplicably, the shot slipped through the goalkeeper’s legs and crossed the line before he could recover.

In the latter stages, Ndiaye put the seal on a memorable Everton triumph with a spectacular third goal in the 78th minute. Collecting a flicked header from Beto, he found himself one-on-one with Caicedo on the edge of the area before cutting inside and bending an unstoppable effort into the top corner, leaving Sanchez with no chance whatsoever.

Chelsea created precious little throughout the encounter, with Enzo Fernandez denied three times by Jordan Pickford. The Argentine’s best opportunity came when the Everton goalkeeper fumbled a punch, only to produce a brilliant one-handed save moments later. Substitute Estevao twice came close to scoring directly from corners, striking the crossbar on one occasion.

The victory represented Everton’s most emphatic triumph over Chelsea since 1987, with home supporters celebrating in party mode as the final whistle approached. David Moyes’ side now sit just two points adrift of their opponents in the table, breathing down the necks of Rosenior’s faltering squad in the race for European places. Chelsea’s travelling supporters began departing before the conclusion, having witnessed their team fail to keep a clean sheet for an eighth consecutive match.

In a contest marked by missed opportunities for the visitors and resolute play from the hosts, the result serves as a stark reminder of Chelsea’s ongoing challenges this season. The road ahead looks rocky as they search for answers amidst the mounting pressure.
