Emma Raducanu earns over £79,000 ahead of the 2026 Australian Open

Emma Raducanu has scooped over £79,000 following her recent appearance at the United Cup, despite the 22-year-old failing to win her first match of 2026, reports BritPanorama.

The British tennis star fell to a three-set defeat to Maria Sakkari on Monday as she continues her preparations for the Australian Open, which will commence later this month. Despite her failure to win her singles contest, the 2021 US Open champion has claimed a $100,000 (£75,000) appearance fee following her outing in Australia.

With Great Britain beating Japan, she also secured approximately $6,000 (£4,474) via a team win bonus. That total would have been even greater, but Great Britain was ultimately eliminated by Greece after losing their tie 2-1.

Raducanu will return to the court next week for the Hobart International before aiming for a second major title at the 2026 Australian Open. Speaking after her defeat to Sakkari, Raducanu acknowledged the challenges she faced after limited play during the off-season. “In my match, considering the circumstances, doubt whether I was going to play or not today, I’m pretty happy with how I was able to kind of play a match of three sets,” she remarked.

Elaborating on her performance, Raducanu expressed, “I started hitting two weeks ago, so it’s been a good two and a bit months where I didn’t play… It’s been difficult to kind of increase the load and add the unpredictability of the tennis.” She noted that despite the challenging circumstances, her ability to compete at a high level against Sakkari was a source of pride, highlighting the Spaniard’s form following her recent victory over Naomi Osaka.

The 2026 Australian Open will feature record prize money, providing additional incentive for players to perform at their best as they vie for success. The early stages of the season often set the tone for the year ahead, reflecting just how delicate the balance between injury recovery and competitive readiness can be.

For Raducanu, this year begins with as much promise as pressure, a reminder of the relentless pursuit of excellence in professional sport.
