Eddie Hearn’s silent protest at Eubank Jr vs Benn press conference

Eddie Hearn staged a deliberately silent protest at the final press conference for Chris Eubank Jr’s rematch with Conor Benn, a stunt aimed at mocking the interruptions he faced during April’s media event, reports BritPanorama.

In place of spoken words, the promoter displayed a series of cue cards while Silent Night played in the background, leaving fighters, journalists, and fans momentarily stunned. This approach was a direct response to a previous press conference where Eubank interrupted Hearn and complained about the sound of his voice.

As Hearn raised the first card, Eubank recognized the act and broke into a grin. “He’s actually brought cue cards with him, this is embarrassing,” he remarked. Hearn’s cards included short, pre-written messages stating his views on the fight, acknowledging the significance of the upcoming rematch.

Amid the light-heartedness, Eubank continued to comment throughout the musical interlude, finding humour in Hearn’s performance. He noted, “What a beautiful thing it is that I don’t have to interrupt this guy.” This exchange of banter contrasted with the serious context as Eubank later addressed claims from Team Benn regarding a supposed payment to his father for attending an earlier event.

“All jokes aside, there is one thing I must address first,” Eubank stated. “Conor Benn, Nigel Benn and Eddie Hearn claimed my dad was paid to come to the first fight, and that’s not true.” He emphasized that it was disrespectful to suggest financial inducements were involved in the previous fight, highlighting the integrity expected in the sport.

Attention now turns to Saturday night at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, where a full crowd will watch the latest chapter in one of British boxing’s most contentious rivalries. Eubank won their first meeting by unanimous decision, and both camps have assured fans that the rematch will provide an equally dramatic encounter.
