Drake suffers another betting loss as Joshua stops Paul
Drake’s recent gamble has resulted in a significant financial setback, as the Canadian rapper lost £150,000 on Friday night when Jake Paul was defeated by Anthony Joshua in their heavyweight bout in Miami, reports BritPanorama.
The anticipated upset failed to materialise as Joshua stopped Paul in the sixth round, leaving Drake empty-handed. Had Paul managed to secure the victory, the rapper would have received a substantial payout of £1.2 million.
Drake, who is known for his high-stakes bets, had shared his wager on Instagram before the fight, proclaiming, “Jakeyyyyy boy. Lock tf in.” However, this latest loss adds to a string of unsuccessful wagers for the musician, who has been facing a challenging period in the realm of boxing bets.
In November 2024, Drake lost £355,000 betting on Mike Tyson against Paul, who emerged victorious. Earlier in 2024, he had staked £565,000 on Tyson Fury to defeat Oleksandr Usyk and £615,000 on Francis Ngannou to beat Joshua, both of which resulted in losses. Joshua entered the contest against Paul as a clear favourite, holding a record of 28 wins and 4 losses, with 25 knockouts, while Paul was coming off six consecutive victories with a 12-1 record.
This persistent misfortune has led to the emergence of the so-called ‘Drake Curse,’ a superstition that alleges that the rapper’s support tends to backfire on the athletes he roots for. The curse’s notable victims have included sports stars across various disciplines.
Joshua himself has previously acknowledged the implications of having Drake involved, jokingly suggesting a ban on the rapper attending his fights. “I know I shouldn’t. You know about the Drake curse? It’s real, though,” he remarked in an interview.
Drake has been candid about his gambling habits, admitting to losing £5 million within a single month earlier this year. He openly shared on social media, “Gotta share the other side of gambling… Losses are so fried right now…” His betting endeavours are not limited to boxing, having lost significant amounts on both NBA and NHL wagers in recent months.
As the ongoing saga of his betting outcomes unfolds, one must wonder how even the most celebrated of celebrities can face the sting of defeat, revealing that luck in the ring can be just as unpredictable as it is in life.
