Donald Trump receives first-ever FIFA Peace Prize

Donald Trump has received the first-ever FIFA Peace Prize at the World Cup draw ceremony in Washington, DC, reports BritPanorama.

The President was awarded the new prize from football’s global governing body, recognising individuals who have made exceptional contributions to peace and unity.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino praised Trump’s role in the Middle East peace negotiations, highlighting the US’s ongoing efforts to resolve the conflict resulting from Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine. In a two-minute speech, Trump described the award as “the great honours of my life.”

Trump also expressed gratitude for the cooperation between the US, Mexico, and Canada, noting the enthusiasm displayed by the organisers. His comments came just before the 2026 World Cup draw, where England and Scotland awaited the announcement of their competition opponents.

During his acceptance speech, Trump stated, “This is truly one of the great honours of my life,” and underscored the importance of saving lives in various global conflicts. He specifically mentioned the Congo and remarked on his efforts in India and Pakistan.

Infantino reflected on the current state of global conflicts, stating, “Like everyone here in the room, we see images of war all over the world,” and emphasised the need for hope and unity, praising Trump’s leadership in facilitating peace agreements.

He added, “You definitely deserve the FIFA Peace Prize for your actions. You can always count on my support and the whole football community.” Infantino also credited Trump’s influence on ticket sales and the excitement surrounding the upcoming World Cup.

As he concluded his remarks, Trump thanked his wife, Melania, and remarked on the unprecedented enthusiasm for the upcoming event, asserting that “the world is a safer place now” under his leadership.

In a world where sport often intersects with international relations, Trump’s recognition by FIFA serves as a reminder of how even the intricacies of diplomacy can find a platform within the realm of football, underscoring both the sport’s global reach and political significance.
