Declan Rice shines in Arsenal’s victory over Bournemouth

Declan Rice made a remarkable return from injury, scoring twice as Arsenal triumphed over Bournemouth 3-2 at the Vitality Stadium. The England midfielder had posed a doubt after missing Tuesday’s match against Aston Villa due to a swollen knee, but manager Mikel Arteta included him in the starting lineup, reports BritPanorama.

Rice’s impactful second-half brace extended Arsenal’s lead at the top of the Premier League to six points. The Gunners now hold 48 points from 20 matches, with Manchester City trailing by seven and preparing to face Chelsea on Sunday.

The match began poorly for Arsenal when Gabriel’s ill-fated pass intended for William Saliba fell to Bournemouth’s Evanilson, who capitalised by opening the scoring in the 10th minute. However, the visitors quickly responded as Gabriel made amends six minutes later, scoring the equaliser following a flurry of chances.

Rice took control after halftime, scoring his first goal shortly after the restart with a precise finish from the edge of the box, and then he netted his second following a well-crafted team move involving Bukayo Saka. This marked Rice’s first brace in the Premier League, achieved in his 296th appearance.

Bournemouth’s Junior Kroupi briefly reignited hopes for the home side with a stunning strike just five minutes after Rice’s second goal, but Arsenal managed to maintain their composure in a tense finale, recording their fifth consecutive victory. For Bournemouth, the loss extends their winless streak to 11 matches, still leaving them nine points clear of the relegation zone.

As Arsenal inch closer to potentially ending a 22-year wait for the title, the sight of Rice thriving post-injury reinforces the team’s resolve. For every moment of triumph, however, the tense finish serves as a reminder of the unpredictability that defines football.
