Dallas Cowboys player Marshawn Kneeland dies at 24

Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman Marshawn Kneeland has died at the age of 24, following a distressing incident in Frisco, Texas, reports BritPanorama.

Authorities discovered Kneeland with an “apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound” shortly after midnight on Thursday. He had reportedly fled from police who had pulled him over, subsequently crashing his vehicle and leading law enforcement on an extensive search before his body was found.

Shortly after his car was located, Kneeland exited the vehicle on foot, prompting a multi-agency effort that included police dogs and drones. His death is under investigation, with the official cause pending from the Collin County Medical Examiner’s Office.

According to reports, Kneeland had a history of mental health issues and was armed at the time of the incident. He had bid farewell to his family during what was described as an “apparent medical episode” shortly before his death.

The Dallas Cowboys expressed their sorrow in a statement, describing Kneeland as a “beloved teammate” and extending their thoughts to his girlfriend, Catalina, and family. This season, Kneeland had begun to make a mark in the NFL, recently scoring his first career touchdown against the Arizona Cardinals.

Kneeland’s agent, Jonathan Perzley, conveyed his deep grief, highlighting Kneeland’s journey from a hopeful college athlete to a respected professional in the NFL. He emphasized the pain felt across the football community and requested privacy for Kneeland’s family during this tragic time.

The NFL also shared its condolences, underscoring their support for both the Cowboys and Kneeland’s loved ones as they navigate the aftermath of this loss. Kneeland was selected by the Cowboys in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, and in a brief time on the field, he had recorded 26 tackles and one sack over 18 games.

As the tributes pour in, this somber event casts a shadow on the ongoing sports season, serving as a poignant reminder of the pressures faced by players both on and off the field. It’s a tragedy that brings to light just how fragile life can be, even for those who stand tall under the bright lights of professional sport.
