Crystal Palace signs Jorgen Strand Larsen for record fee
Crystal Palace have secured the signing of Norwegian striker Jorgen Strand Larsen in a deal that represents the club’s largest ever transfer, reports BritPanorama.
The 25-year-old arrives at Selhurst Park from Wolverhampton Wanderers having put pen to paper on a contract running until summer 2030. The overall package is understood to be worth £48 million, comprising an upfront payment of £43 million alongside £5 million in potential additional payments.
The south London outfit moved for the forward following their decision to grant Jean-Philippe Mateta permission to seek a move away during the January window. Mateta’s anticipated deadline-day move to AC Milan ultimately fell through, but it did not derail Palace’s determination to secure their primary target.
Strand Larsen has scored 14 times for Wolves and has played a crucial role in Gary O’Neil’s side despite sitting at the bottom of the Premier League. Palace chairman Steve Parish said: “We’re delighted that Jorgen has chosen to continue his impressive journey with us and look forward to seeing him in action at Selhurst Park.” Oliver Glasner will hope the Norwegian can thrive at Selhurst Park, where the Eagles find themselves in desperate need of firepower.
Strand Larsen expressed his enthusiasm for the move, stating, “I’m really excited to come to Crystal Palace. It’s been something I’ve wanted to do for a long time now. I’m here to bring energy and goals, and to try to do my best for the club.”
Palace’s attempts to recruit Everton’s Dwight McNeil fell through, while academy product Jesurun Rak-Sakyi departed on loan to Stoke until the season’s end. The side has endured a torrid spell, failing to secure victory in their last 12 fixtures across all competitions. Their manager, Oliver Glasner, announced he will leave Crystal Palace at the end of the season. The 51-year-old led the South London side to their first-ever major trophy last year with a historic FA Cup victory.
Glasner joined Palace nearly two years ago, taking over from former England manager Roy Hodgson. His departure has sparked speculation surrounding the vacant Manchester United job, which the club look to fill in the summer. With a record of 41 wins in 95 games at Palace (43.16 percent), he leaves having achieved their highest Premier League finish last season. The announcement also coincides with defender Marc Guehi signing for Manchester City.
In this dynamic landscape of transfers, Strand Larsen’s arrival marks a significant moment for Crystal Palace as they strive to reinvigorate their campaign, reflecting the ongoing need for resources and resolve in a fiercely competitive environment.
