Crystal Palace secures Champions League spot with late winner against Fulham

Guehi’s late winner elevates Crystal Palace

Marc Guehi’s late winner lifted Crystal Palace to fourth in the Premier League after they snatched a 2-1 victory over Fulham at Craven Cottage, reports BritPanorama.

In a closely contested London derby, the opening goal came from Eddie Nketiah, who converted from a fine pass by Adam Wharton in the 20th minute, marking his first league start of the season. Harry Wilson equalised for Fulham with a superb finish just before half-time after a slick exchange with Raul Jimenez, ensuring the teams went into the break at one goal apiece.

Fulham initially dominated after the restart and appeared to take the lead through Emile Smith Rowe, only for VAR to rule out the goal for offside. Crystal Palace, instructed by manager Oliver Glasner to tighten their midfield, gradually regained footing, with Nketiah notably coming close to scoring again as Timothy Castagne cleared off the line.

In the final stages, as pressure mounted leading to an intense climax, Palace executed a decisive corner in the 87th minute. Guehi demonstrated his aerial prowess to head in from Yeremy Pino’s delivery, sealing the match and affirming their position in the standings as they chase Champions League football.

This victory solidifies Palace’s place among the league’s elite, reflecting their resilience and strategic adjustments during the match. The tactical moves made by Glasner may well define their campaign as they keep their sights set on continental competition.

In football, the margins are often razor-thin; a matter of seconds or inches can determine fortunes. For Palace, this win reinforces their ambition, while Fulham will undoubtedly reflect on what might have been.
