Cristiano Ronaldo Jr trains with Real Madrid’s under-16 squad

Cristiano Ronaldo Jr participated in a training session with Real Madrid’s under-16 squad on Tuesday, with the Spanish giants understood to be considering bringing the teenager into their youth ranks, reports BritPanorama.

The 15-year-old forward could soon be walking the same corridors at Valdebebas where his father became a club legend. Should the move materialise, the youngster would be joining an institution where Ronaldo senior etched his name into history as the all-time leading scorer, finding the net an extraordinary 450 times across 438 matches.

The Athletic notes that the session aimed at assessing the teenager’s suitability for Madrid’s prestigious academy system.

Currently plying his trade in the youth setup at Al Nassr, where his father has been contracted since January 2023, the young striker’s potential switch to Spain represents a significant step forward in his development. Madrid would mark the third major European club on Ronaldo Jr’s footballing CV, having previously been part of the academies of Manchester United and Juventus.

According to Spanish publication AS, the teenager has completed two training sessions with the Madrid academy so far and reportedly made a “perfect” first impression on the coaching staff. Ronaldo senior’s nine-year tenure in the Spanish capital proved remarkably fruitful, during which he lifted the Champions League trophy on four occasions, including three consecutive tournaments.

His domestic haul at Madrid included two La Liga titles and a pair of Copa del Rey triumphs, cementing his status as one of the most decorated players in the club’s storied history. The 41-year-old continues to lead Portugal as captain, a role he has held since 2008, and remains the nation’s record goalscorer with 143 goals from 226 international appearances.

Ronaldo Jr, who was born in the United States, has opted to represent Portugal at the international level, following in his father’s footsteps. The young forward made his debut in May last year with the under-15 side against Japan and has progressed through the age groups, earning six caps and netting his first goal for the under-16 team. Several other leading European clubs are also understood to be monitoring his progress.

The prospect of another Ronaldo making his mark at Madrid adds a layer of intrigue to an already storied narrative, demonstrating how athletic legacies continue to shape football’s future.
