Cristiano Ronaldo returns to action with Al-Nassr after ending strike
Cristiano Ronaldo has taken to social media following his return to action with Al-Nassr, having decided to end his strike in Saudi Arabia, reports BritPanorama.
The 41-year-old had missed his side’s previous three matches, expressing dissatisfaction with the Public Investment Fund over his belief that rivals were receiving preferential treatment.
Ronaldo’s discontent was notably directed at Al-Hilal, who signed his former Real Madrid teammate Karim Benzema, which further fueled his grievances. The forward’s decision to strike raised eyebrows, especially given that he earns approximately £500,000 a day.
On Saturday, Ronaldo marked his comeback by scoring the opening goal in the 18th minute during a match in which Al-Nassr secured a 2-0 victory over Al Fateh. Ayman Yahya later doubled their advantage in the 78th minute.
Following his return, Ronaldo posted a succinct message on Instagram: “Another step forward. Let’s keep going.” Al-Nassr remains in contention for the Saudi Pro League title, although Ronaldo is yet to win a trophy with the team since his move in January 2023, shortly after a tumultuous exit from Manchester United.
Ronaldo departed United following a controversial interview critical of then-manager Erik ten Hag, the club’s training facilities, and the Glazer family, whose ownership remains contentious among fans. His contract with Al-Nassr runs until 2027, but speculation regarding a potential departure has surfaced, with Sporting emerging as a possible destination, though wage demands could pose a challenge.
Rumours have also circulated about a potential return to Manchester United, though these claims appear to originate from social media rather than any official interest. As he approaches the twilight of his illustrious career, speculation continues regarding his future, with Portugal’s national team coach, Roberto Martinez, asserting that Ronaldo’s fitness suggests he could play for a significant time yet.
Martinez stated, “If you were going to analyse a player that is dropping at physical level, that’s not the case. His physical stats are of a player that could go on and on and on. I think it’s more a question of when he’ll feel that is the right time.”
With discussions around his future gaining momentum, it remains clear that Ronaldo’s enduring commitment to football continues to captivate both fans and detractors alike.
