Promoter Ben Shalom has provided a reassuring update on Chris Eubank Jr’s condition, confirming the boxer is recovering well after health concerns emerged following his November defeat to Conor Benn, reports BritPanorama.

The 36-year-old posted alarming footage from a hospital bed after the rematch loss, where he was dropped twice in the closing round after being outpointed across 12 rounds in north London. The visuals raised serious worries about his health and future in the sport.

Speaking to The Sun, Shalom stated, “I was with him last week, he’s in a good place.” This update is expected to alleviate fears about Eubank’s future in boxing following the concerning scenes after his second encounter with Benn.

Shalom emphasized that Eubank naturally competes at super-middleweight, thus the demands placed on his body are particularly severe. “He’s a super-middleweight and what he did last year was very, very tough on his body, not to mention the medical things that he had to deal with,” he explained. Despite these challenges, Shalom expressed confidence in Eubank’s abilities when properly prepared.

The promoter highlighted that Eubank’s return to the ring is still some way off, indicating that a comeback is likely around six months away. “He’s looking forward to being back, but he wants to come back fit so we’re still probably about six months away from his return,” Shalom noted.

Shalom also recognized Eubank’s enduring commercial appeal, having promoted him for five events, each of which were significant box office successes. “We want the big fights. Every time Chris Eubank Jr fights, it’s an occasion,” he remarked.

The weight-cutting requirements for the Benn fights have markedly affected Eubank’s health. For the initial April clash at Tottenham Stadium, he narrowly missed the 160lb middleweight limit by just 0.05lb but successfully made weight for the rematch. Both bouts included a 10lb rehydration clause, forcing him onto the scales with Benn on fight mornings. While Eubank received an enhanced purse for agreeing to these conditions, Shalom has acknowledged that such arrangements were “dangerous” and will not be imposed again.

Eubank Jr’s next fight remains uncertain, with many eyes on who he may face when he returns to the ring. The evolving story underlines the complex interplay of sport and athlete health, reminding fans just how significant a physical and mental toll boxing can exert on its participants.
