Clark Hunt expresses hope for Travis Kelce’s return
Kansas City Chiefs owner Clark Hunt has made it clear the organisation is hoping Travis Kelce will suit up for another season, reports BritPanorama.
Speaking on Good Morning Football, Hunt expressed confidence in his star tight end’s abilities despite the retirement speculation surrounding the 36-year-old. “There’s no doubt in my mind that he can still play,” Hunt declared.
The Chiefs chairman acknowledged that the team is giving Kelce space to make his decision, noting he has plenty on his plate this offseason. “As an organisation we certainly hope he’ll come back,” Hunt added. “We are being respectful and giving him the time he needs to make a decision.”
Kelce’s performance in the 2025 season saw a decrease in statistics, finishing with 851 receiving yards and five touchdowns on 76 catches. This marked his second-lowest yardage total since his rookie year, although he remained quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ most reliable target with 108 passes thrown his way.
The Chiefs endured a challenging season, recording a 6-11 record and missing the playoffs for the first time since 2014. The campaign was further complicated by Mahomes suffering a significant ACL injury that prematurely ended his year.
Kelce has remained tight-lipped about his future plans, though he recently discussed his feelings on the New Heights podcast. “There’s a lot of love for the game that’s still there, and I don’t think I’ll ever lose that,” he revealed to his brother Jason, acknowledging the tricky nature of his situation.
If his body can recover and feel strong, Kelce indicated he would consider returning. “If my body can heal up and rest up and I can feel confident that I can go out there and give it another 18, 20, 21-week run, I think I would do it in a heartbeat,” he said.
For now, he is focusing on simply being a “regular human” while he takes time to recover. However, he has confirmed he will not participate in this year’s Pro Bowl, intensifying speculation about his future.
The tight end is also facing a significant personal milestone, with his wedding to pop superstar Taylor Swift scheduled for later this year. After 13 seasons in the NFL and three Super Bowl rings to his name, the choice ultimately rests with Kelce.
Amid the uncertainties, the allure of a potential television career remains, but for now, Kelce’s next steps remain a focal point for Chiefs fans eagerly awaiting his decision.
