Carlos Alcaraz plays golf with Roger Federer during Australian Open

Carlos Alcaraz has disclosed that he enjoyed a round of golf with Roger Federer whilst both were present in Melbourne for the Australian Open, reports BritPanorama.

The world No 1 shared this detail during an on-court interview with former Australian Open semi-finalist Wally Masur following his second-round victory. Alcaraz, reflecting on the encounter, expressed admiration for Federer’s performance on the golf course.

“It’s as beautiful as the tennis. I’m not surprised, either. It’s unbelievable. He does everything in a really beautiful style,” the Spaniard noted, highlighting the Swiss maestro’s aptitude.

The 22-year-old added that Federer possesses “a really beautiful swing” and performs exceptionally well on the fairways. Remarkably, despite having only taken up golf within the past two years, Federer appears to outperform Alcaraz, who began playing as a teenager.

Alcaraz humorously acknowledged the discrepancy: “I think he’s been playing for two years now, and his level is really, really good for two years,” he said. “I’ve been playing for five, and he already beats me, so it hurts!” The top seed confirmed plans to make the most of Melbourne’s renowned courses during his downtime.

Meanwhile, Andy Murray, who retired from professional tennis 18 months ago, recently revealed his burgeoning passion for golf, even contemplating a career as a caddie for a touring professional. Speaking on The Romesh Ranganathan Show, Murray expressed enthusiasm for the role, stating, “I love golf, and if you love that sport, then I think it would be a great job.” He identified his ideal player to support without hesitation.

Murray, a three-time Grand Slam champion, maintains realistic goals within the sport. He clarified, “I don’t have ambitions of playing in The Open,” but hopes to reach a level where he could compete in regional qualifying rounds. He indicated this aspiration stems from a desire to engage more deeply with the sport, demonstrating that even retired champions can find new avenues for competition and camaraderie in golf.

Amid the excitement of Australian Open tennis, it seems the bonds between players extend far beyond the court, as they explore new passions, reminding us how intertwined sports often are.
