Carlos Alcaraz confirms kangaroo tattoo plans after Australian Open victory
Carlos Alcaraz has announced his intention to get a kangaroo tattoo, following his historic triumph at the Australian Open, where he became the youngest player to achieve a career Grand Slam by defeating Novak Djokovic in four sets, reports BritPanorama.
The 22-year-old Spaniard’s victory in Melbourne not only netted him over £2 million in prize money but also added to his impressive tally of Grand Slam titles, which now includes seven championships: two at the US Open, two at Wimbledon, and two at the French Open.
Alcaraz first expressed interest in commemorating his Australian achievements with a tattoo last year, but it was only after securing the title that he has now confirmed his plans. “I already know it’s going to be a kangaroo. I just don’t know the place. I’m just thinking about the leg but I don’t know which calf, whether it will be the right or left one,” he said this week.
Despite his success, his parents have never fully embraced his growing collection of tattoos, which he adds after each Grand Slam win. Alcaraz revealed to the press that, to ease his parents’ concerns about his tattoo habit, he has downplayed the frequency of his ink choices in the past, stating “I told my parents just to calm them that it was just the first one in every major.” His body art tradition began in 2022 after his maiden Grand Slam victory at Flushing Meadows, where he marked the date of that win on his left arm.
Alcaraz’s tattoo journey has seen him immortalize significant moments from his career, including visual representations of the Brooklyn Bridge and the Statue of Liberty after his second US Open win in 2025, and an Eiffel Tower design on his leg following his 2024 French Open victory. His Wimbledon tribute features a strawberry above his right ankle, accompanied by the date of his breakthrough in 2023.
As he prepares to add the kangaroo to his array of tattoos, Alcaraz’s comments reflect his sensitive navigation of familial expectations amid his burgeoning career. “I choose a discreet location,” he mentioned, emphasizing that he prefers smaller tattoos that do not raise concerns. “I’m not going to get one on my face or in the middle of my thigh.” This thoughtfulness underscores both his youthful exuberance and the grounded approach he maintains towards his professional journey.
The kangaroo tattoo will now join his growing gallery of Grand Slam mementos, another touchstone of a career that continues to flourish and captivate fans around the world. Alcaraz’s playful reflections on his ink also serve as a reminder of how sport and personal expression intertwine, showcasing a young athlete carving his path on and off the court.
