Bruno Fernandes’ social media account hacked, explicit posts surface
Manchester United have been forced to issue a statement after club captain Bruno Fernandes’ X account was hacked and a deluge of explicit posts were made from his official page, reports BritPanorama.
The first of the series of bizarre posts was made at 11.12pm, with hackers on his account writing “Join Macclesfield FC. Excited for the future”, referencing the National League North side who knocked out FA Cup holders Crystal Palace on Saturday.
However, the messages became more explicit as time went on, with sexually charged comments made about ex-teammate Cristiano Ronaldo, women’s football star Alisha Lehmann, and adult content creator Bonnie Blue. The Manchester United star’s account also falsely claimed an affiliation with England Cricket, stating, “joining England Cricket as they need all the help they can get”, in the aftermath of the Three Lions’ 4-1 defeat to Australia in the Ashes.
The hacker continued with a range of erratic messages, tagging popular British YouTuber Olajide “JJ” Olatunji, also known as KSI, and adding comments such as “Jake Paul beat AJ but you aren’t ready for that conversation.” Among other bizarre declarations was an initiation challenge to two-time World Darts champion Luke Litter for a “1v1” on FIFA.
The compromised account also called for the removal of INEOS, the global chemical manufacturing giant led by British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who purchased a 25 per cent stake in Manchester United in 2023. In a final message before all of the posts were taken down, the hacker shared an image of the scoreboard from when the Red Devils were hammered 7-0 by arch rivals Liverpool at Anfield.
As social media breaches become increasingly prevalent, this incident serves as a reminder of the vulnerabilities even high-profile accounts face and how swiftly miscommunication and embarrassment can spread online.
