Bruno Fernandes shines as Manchester United outclass Wolverhampton

Bruno Fernandes delivered a masterclass at Molineux, scoring twice and providing an assist as Manchester United secured a decisive 4-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers, reports BritPanorama.

This result marked United’s largest winning margin of the season and only their second victory in six matches, following a frustrating period that included a home defeat to Everton and a draw against West Ham.

Fernandes broke the deadlock in the 25th minute, benefiting from a deflected back-pass. Despite briefly losing his balance while receiving a lay-off, he nudged the ball past goalkeeper Sam Johnstone, who could only watch it trickle over the line. It was Fernandes’ first goal since September.

Wolves, however, equalised just before halftime when Jean-Ricner Bellegarde scored with a half-volley, ending a 540-minute league scoring drought for the club. Previously, their last goal had come in a defeat to Burnley on 26 October.

Upon resumption, United quickly reasserted their control, with Bryan Mbeumo tapping in a cutback from Diogo Dalot. This marked Mbeumo’s sixth goal involvement against Wolves, which includes four goals and two assists across the Premier League.

Mason Mount then scored in the 62nd minute, volleying home a perfectly paced ball from Fernandes, who capped off his impressive evening by converting a penalty kick after VAR identified a handball by Yerson Mosquera. This resulted in Wolves extending their losing streak to eight league matches, equalling their worst record since the 1981-82 season.

Rob Edwards, appointed as manager following the sacking of Vitor Pereira, has yet to secure a victory, leaving Wolves at the bottom of the Premier League with just two points from 15 fixtures, eight points behind the team directly above them.

As the match concluded, the atmosphere was marred by the frustration of home supporters, many of whom boycotted the initial quarter of the game in protest against the club’s ownership. The discontent boiled over as nine minutes of added time were announced, leading to boos and calls for the referee to end the encounter.

In a season where glimmers of hope for United seem more pronounced of late, the spectre of Wolves’ ongoing struggles serves as a sobering reminder of the fine line between triumph and turmoil in football. It’s these contrasting narratives that continue to shape the drama of the Premier League.
