Supporter dies following medical emergency at Blackpool match
A Blackpool Football Club supporter has died after suffering a medical emergency during Saturday’s League One fixture against Peterborough United at Bloomfield Road, reports BritPanorama.
Graham Sharman collapsed in the second half, leading fellow fans to call for assistance from the stands. Play was halted as medical personnel rushed to the scene to provide emergency treatment.
Despite the immediate attention from professionals, Mr Sharman could not be saved and was pronounced dead at the ground. The incident cast a shadow over what had otherwise been a crucial home victory for the Seasiders.
Blackpool FC confirmed the news in an official statement, expressing profound sorrow at the loss of their supporter. “Blackpool Football Club is deeply saddened to report the news of the passing of supporter Graham Sharman,” the statement noted. “Despite the best efforts of medical professionals, Graham sadly passed away.” The club indicated that they would be in close communication with his family to provide support.
Manager Ian Evatt also offered his condolences, stating, “Some things are more important than football… it’s important to have perspective.” Peterborough United’s manager Luke Williams echoed this sentiment, describing the event as “very disturbing” and expressing sympathy for the affected families.
On the pitch, Blackpool achieved a 3-1 victory, with contributions from Dale Taylor and Tom Bloxham, leaving the club four points above the relegation zone. The match outcome, however, was overshadowed by the tragic incident, underlining the unpredictable nature of football where moments of joy can quickly turn to sorrow.
