Arne Slot knew Mohamed Salah would leave Liverpool

Arne Slot confirmed that he was aware Mohamed Salah would leave Liverpool this summer, prior to the star’s surprising announcement last month, reports BritPanorama.

Salah has been a fixture at Liverpool since his transfer from Roma in 2017, contributing significantly to the club’s achievements, including victories in the Premier League, Champions League, and FA Cup.

Despite his historical impact, Salah’s performance has diminished this season, and he has reportedly had tensions with Slot behind the scenes. Recently, he declared his intention to seek a new challenge, with several top European clubs, such as Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain, expressing interest.

Slot has publicly expressed his support for Salah’s decision, explaining that he had anticipated the announcement. “I knew, so it wasn’t new news to me, but I think it was very good to hear and see all the reactions of his teammates, but also from everywhere around the world, for what he has done for this football club and for football in general,” he reflected before the forthcoming FA Cup tie against Manchester City.

He added, “Hopefully he can make his legacy even more special in the upcoming weeks and months where we still play for something special. But he will always leave this club as a legend because, as I said, the way this club has performed in the last seasons is also for a large part due to what he’s done for it.”

Slot praised Salah’s dedication, noting, “I don’t know if it was his best season in terms of numbers, but it was an impressive season because he had the most goals and the most assists. He will definitely leave as a legend of this club.”

Reflecting on their time together, Slot mentioned how when he began working with Salah, he was struck by the player’s professionalism and unmatched fitness levels. “He was the fittest player that came back, and I think that’s the ideal situation that you want as a manager,” he said, highlighting Salah’s relentless drive to prove himself.

As Salah prepares for a crucial FA Cup match against Manchester City, he will be keen to deliver another standout performance amid speculation regarding his future. City, fresh from a recent Carabao Cup victory over Arsenal, are set as the favourites, but the match could serve as a pivotal moment in Salah’s storied career with Liverpool.
