Arne Slot accepts responsibility for Liverpool's 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest

Liverpool’s struggles continue with a 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest

Arne Slot has taken full responsibility for Liverpool’s disastrous 3-0 loss against Nottingham Forest as pressure mounts on the Dutch manager, reports BritPanorama.

The match saw Forest take the lead after a VAR check in the 33rd minute when a corner from Eliiot Anderson was met by Murillo. Nicolò Savona quickly added a second goal less than a minute after the start of the second half, intensifying Liverpool’s woes.

The battering continued as Morgan Gibbs-White netted a third to seal the win, marking it as the Midlands club’s finest victory during Sean Dyche’s tenure. The loss compounded Liverpool’s issues, resulting in their eighth defeat in eleven matches, leaving them languishing in the bottom half of the table.

Speaking after the game, Slot stated, “I want to emphasise I am responsible for the current losses. You are responsible when you are winning but also responsible when you are losing. I can never come up with enough excuses for us to have the results we have. That is far from good enough and I am responsible for that.” His words reflect a deep understanding of the challenges facing his side, particularly after Liverpool’s previous 3-0 defeat to Manchester City just before the international break, which effectively diminished their title aspirations.

Slot acknowledged that the team had been generally dominant in their games but lamented their failure to convert opportunities into goals, emphasizing the importance of scoring first to shift the momentum. “If you are playing well and score a goal to go 1-0 up the other team gets deflated,” he noted, contrasting with the current scenario where conceding early has boosted opponents’ morale.

In a contentious moment during the match, Liverpool fans argued that the opening goal should have been disallowed due to Dan Ndoye’s positioning, which obstructed goalkeeper Alisson’s view. This echoed a similar disallowed goal for Virgil van Dijk against Manchester City. Slot, however, refrained from dwelling on the referee’s decisions, stating, “No one wants to hear from me now talking about referee decisions if you lose 3-0 at home to Forest. I should look at myself first and my team.” His focus on accountability signals an attempt to instill a sense of resilience amid adversity.

Following the defeat, Dyche praised his players’ performance, saying, “They worked very hard this week in training. I still have to get them how I like them. I keep it very simple. The basics will never go out of fashion for me.” He acknowledged the need for tactical adjustments, highlighting their successful execution of a more direct approach.

As Liverpool faces the possibility of being 11 points behind Premier League leaders Arsenal, the pressure on Slot continues to mount. It remains to be seen how the team can regroup and respond to the urgency of their situation in the matches ahead, revealing the precarious nature of football where hope can often seem just beyond reach.
