Anthony Joshua hospitalised after fatal car crash

Anthony Joshua is currently recovering in a Lagos hospital following a serious car accident that resulted in the deaths of two of his close friends, reports BritPanorama.

Joshua’s family has expressed their concern, noting that they have not yet been permitted to visit the 36-year-old in the hospital. However, his uncle, Robert Joshua, confirmed that authorities have provided encouraging updates about Joshua’s condition, stating, “We have not been allowed to see him, but from information given by authorities, he is responding to treatment.”

The heavyweight champion is under care at Duchess International Hospital in Lagos, where medical staff have described his condition as stable and expect him to remain at the facility until the New Year. Meanwhile, a second uncle, Adedamola Joshua, shared that the boxer had just arrived in Nigeria less than six hours before the fatal incident.

The tragedy has left the Joshua family in shock, as Adedamola noted the significant toll it has taken on their loved ones. “The incident shook our family deeply. Though our son, Anthony, is alive, two of his friends, who came to celebrate with us, lost their lives,” he stated. “This is a serious tragedy, not only for our family, but for Ogun State, Nigeria, and the world at large.”

The two deceased were identified as Sina Ghami, Joshua’s coach, and Latif “Latz” Ayodele, a personal trainer. Both men had travelled to Nigeria to join Joshua in celebration, which makes their loss even more heartbreaking for the family. They died instantly when their Lexus SUV collided with a stationary lorry on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, an area notoriously known for its hazards.

Following the accident, Joshua described the physical repercussions he endured, stating, “I feel pain all over my body.” This collision occurred just ten days after he celebrated a notable victory in the boxing ring against YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul, highlighting the stark contrast between triumph and tragedy in his recent life.

Having travelled to Nigeria to spend time with family over the festive period, the joyful occasion quickly turned to despair. The accident has cast a long shadow over what was supposed to be a moment of reunion for the heavyweight champion.
