Anthony Joshua returns to Finchley Amateur Boxing Club

Anthony Joshua has made a notable return to Finchley Amateur Boxing Club, rekindling ties with Sean Murphy, the coach who played a critical role in his early boxing career, reports BritPanorama.

The 36-year-old heavyweight shared footage and images on his Instagram story documenting his training sessions with Murphy, highlighting a poignant moment as he seeks to reconnect with his origins following a tragic incident. This visit comes in the wake of a devastating car crash in Nigeria on December 29, which resulted in the deaths of two close friends, personal trainer Kevin “Latz” Ayodele and therapist Sina Ghami.

Joshua’s return to the Finchley gym suggests a step towards recovery as he continues to navigate the aftermath of the accident, which left him requiring extensive medical attention. Just ten days before the crash, Joshua had celebrated a victory over YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul in Miami, making the subsequent loss even more impactful.

As he engages in physical therapy focusing on rib injuries, the heavyweight fighter appears to be resuming aspects of his training regimen. Joshua first arrived at Finchley Amateur Boxing Club at the age of 18, seeking a better path away from trouble, and under Murphy’s guidance, he developed the skills that would lead to national championships.

Their journey culminated in Olympic glory when Joshua claimed gold in 2012 under the coaching of Rob McCracken. The duo continued to collaborate during Joshua’s ascent in the professional ranks, capturing unified heavyweight titles. However, their partnership dissolved following Joshua’s defeat to Oleksandr Usyk in September 2021, which prompted him to seek new coaching perspectives.

Subsequently, Joshua worked with American trainer Robert Garcia for a rematch against Usyk, but this change did not yield the desired results, leading to another points loss against the Ukrainian. Recently, he has partnered with Texan coach Derrick James, securing wins in bouts against Jermaine Franklin and Robert Helenius. With British trainer Ben Davison now in his corner, Joshua aims to push forward after a series of mixed outcomes.

This latest visit to Finchley reflects a crucial point in Joshua’s journey back to the ring, a reminder that even the fiercest competitors must wrestle with personal challenges as they strive for professional resurgence.
