Andy Robertson in talks with Tottenham over potential January move from Liverpool

Tottenham target Andy Robertson for mid-season transfer

In a significant move, Tottenham Hotspur have intensified their pursuit of Andy Robertson this month, opting to secure the Scotland captain’s signing ahead of the summer transfer window, reports BritPanorama.

Robertson, 31, is set to see his contract with Liverpool expire at the end of the current season, allowing him the opportunity to negotiate with interested clubs. As discussions commence regarding a potential transfer, Robertson has found his position at Liverpool compromised following the arrival of Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth, resulting in just four league starts this season.

Once a key player during Liverpool’s title-winning campaign in 2019-20, Robertson’s playing time has diminished significantly. Since joining Liverpool from Hull City in 2017, he has lifted eight major trophies, including a Champions League title and two Premier League titles, solidifying his status as one of the most successful full-backs in the Premier League.

The defender’s attacking prowess is also noteworthy, as he notched more than five league assists in six consecutive seasons from 2017 to 2023, contributing to a total of 60 top-flight assists over his career. With over 300 Premier League appearances, Robertson has established himself as a formidable presence in the division.

Should he relocate to north London, Robertson would become Tottenham’s second major signing of the current January window, with manager Arne Slot seeking to revitalise the squad after a string of disappointing league performances. While doubts about Slot’s position continue to surface, club officials remain supportive and are actively pursuing further recruitment this month.

Initially designated as a target for the summer, Tottenham has expedited their efforts to bring Robertson in during January to enhance their squad. Discussing his future earlier this month, Robertson indicated uncertainty but refrained from speculation. “I’ve got five months left and we need to see what the option is to stay or if there’s options to go and things like that,” he remarked.

Ultimately, Robertson’s decision-making process will involve personal considerations, as he elaborated: “I need to sit down with my family and decide.” As he prepares to lead Scotland into the upcoming World Cup in America, the dynamic of his club future adds a compelling layer to his already significant career.
