Liverpool Suffers Fourth Consecutive Premier League Loss in 3-2 Defeat at Brentford

Liverpool’s struggles continued as they faced a damaging 3-2 defeat against Brentford, marking their fourth consecutive loss in the Premier League. Defender Andy Robertson delivered a candid evaluation post-match, admitting the team displayed “no structure” and failed to adhere to their gameplan, reports BritPanorama.

The Scotland international, who was brought on as a substitute after an hour, stated that the performance was “nowhere near good enough” and underscored the team’s lack of tactical discipline throughout the match.

The match began poorly for Liverpool, with Dango Ouattara scoring for Brentford from a long throw just five minutes in. The deficit widened before halftime as Kevin Schade converted a through-ball from Mikkel Damsgaard, doubling the home side’s advantage. Milos Kerkez briefly revived Liverpool’s hopes with a goal just before the break, reducing the score to 2-1. However, Brentford’s Igor Thiago restored a two-goal cushion from the penalty spot shortly after, sealing Liverpool’s fate despite Mohamed Salah’s late strike narrowing the gap to 3-2.

Robertson remarked on his team’s inability to match Brentford’s physicality and tactical execution. He noted, “We didn’t do enough off the ball,” reflecting on their struggles to compete for loose balls. Despite their preparations to counter Brentford’s long throws, the team failed to implement their game plan, conceding from a throw-in early on.

After falling behind 3-1, Robertson observed that Liverpool lost all tactical coherence in their desperation to equalise. “There’s no structure to it which is never good,” he admitted. He acknowledged that Liverpool’s overall performance was not reflective of a team deserving to earn a draw, highlighting Brentford’s dominance especially in the second half.

As Liverpool’s form worsens with five defeats in their last six matches, Robertson underscored the urgency for improvement, saying, “We need to start playing better and we need to start showing a lot more consistency in our game.” With another match imminent on Wednesday, he noted the lack of time to regroup and the necessity of heightened effort, stating, “People demand results.”

In the end, Liverpool’s persistent struggles provide a stark reminder of the challenges they face in regaining their competitive edge in the Premier League. As the fixtures keep coming, it remains to be seen whether they can rise from this difficult period or if further setbacks await.
