Romance blooms for Sophia Kirkby at the Winter Olympics

American luge star Sophia Kirkby has found romance at the Winter Olympics with an admirer who journeyed 600 miles from the UK just to meet her, reports BritPanorama.

The 24-year-old athlete, often referred to as the “most eligible bachelorette” at the Games, has made it clear she was hunting for love as well as medals in Milan-Cortina. Her search has evidently paid off, as she connected with a keen suitor through social media who recently flew to Italy specifically to spend time with her.

Kirkby, a three-time world championship medallist in women’s doubles luge, marked her Olympic debut in Milan-Cortina, where she and her partner Chevonne Forgan narrowly missed a podium finish, placing fifth. The gold medal was awarded to Italian duo Andrea Voetter and Marion Oberhofer, while Germany’s Dajana Eitberger and Magdalena Matschina took silver, and bronze went to Austria’s Selina Egle and Lara Michaele Kipp.

Despite the competitive result, the outcome hasn’t dampened Kirkby’s Olympic experience. She has been inundated with messages from admirers, revealing her recent connection. “He is a fan that jumped into my DMs two weeks ago,” she mentioned, elaborating on how he had reached out. “He said, ‘Hey, I just found out I have the 13th to 16th off. Would it be weird if I came and booked an Airbnb five minutes from you?'” When asking for her thoughts, she encouraged him to make the trip.

The journey from London to Milan covers approximately 600 miles and takes around two hours by plane. Kirkby described Valentine’s Day as particularly eventful, sharing a selfie on social media with the caption: “Busy day today: two interviews, two dates.” Later, she posted an intriguing update featuring a mystery man in a spa setting, his identity obscured, leaving fans speculating.

Making the most of her time in Italy, Kirkby noted that Team USA covers the expenses for athletes to stay in the Olympic Village throughout the Games, enticing her to enjoy what she considers a vacation. She voiced plans to explore dating apps such as Hinge and Tinder while soaking up the Olympic atmosphere, aiming to meet both fellow competitors and tourists, paving the way for more social adventures.

It speaks volumes about the human connections that can flourish amidst the rigours of competition, a reminder that even the high stakes of the Olympics can overlap with personal moments in unexpected ways.
