Adam Peaty marries Holly Ramsay amid family rift
Olympic swimmer Adam Peaty married Holly Ramsay at Bath Abbey on Saturday in a ceremony attended by some of Britain’s most recognisable faces, though the occasion was marred by a painful family dispute, reports BritPanorama.
The 30-year-old triple Olympic medallist walked into the historic venue hand-in-hand with his five-year-old son George, both dressed in matching black-tie attire.
High-profile guests included David and Victoria Beckham, with Mrs Beckham donning a teal floor-length gown. They were accompanied by their children: Romeo, Cruz, and Harper. Also present were celebrity chefs Marcus Wareing and Angela Hartnett, alongside Dragons’ Den star Sara Davies.
Outside the abbey, around 400 well-wishers gathered to catch a glimpse of the arrivals. However, the start of the day descended into chaos as paparazzi clashed with bodyguards stationed outside the venue. White roses and hydrangeas adorned the arched entrance, which can accommodate 1,200 guests.
The joyful occasion was overshadowed by a rift in Peaty’s family. His parents, Caroline and Mark, chose to remain at their home in Uttoxeter, Staffordshire, rather than attend the ceremony.
The conflict reportedly began when Caroline was not included on the guest list for Ramsay’s hen party. This led to public criticism from Caroline’s sister, Louise Williams, over the exclusion, fueling a falling out between Adam and his mother. Of Peaty’s immediate family, only his sister Bethany was in attendance as one of Holly’s bridesmaids.
Caroline, who celebrated her 60th birthday last week, publicly expressed her pain, stating that the family dynamics were broken due to the wedding’s goings-on. “I don’t think they understand how much they have hurt me; it’s as if they have cut my heart out,” she remarked. She lamented that it was the first Christmas she endured without her family together.
Initially, Caroline had hoped to quietly observe the ceremony from the back of the abbey, but she reconsidered, noting that her presence would “just cause even more of a storm.” She expressed a desire to witness her son get married but acknowledged that it was no longer feasible.
Adam Peaty, the youngest of four children, experienced supportive parents who balanced their work with his swimming training and competitions. His accomplishments included gold medals at the Rio and Tokyo Olympics and a silver in Paris. Earlier in June 2023, Peaty went public with his relationship with Holly Ramsay. Their son George is from Peaty’s previous relationship with Welsh artist Eirianedd Munro.
The wedding, while a personal milestone for Peaty, serves as a poignant reminder of how familial ties can become strained amid life’s significant moments, illustrating the delicate balance between joy and sorrow.
