Union leader highlights demand among members for support of Reform UK over Labour

Union Leader Reports Surging Support for Reform UK

Dave Ward, General Secretary of the Communication Workers Union, revealed that his members have expressed overwhelming support for Nigel Farage’s Reform UK party, with “thousands” of emails urging union affiliation with the party. In stark contrast, not a single member has shown interest in Jeremy Corbyn’s new political movement, reports BritPanorama.

Speaking at a fringe meeting during the Labour Party conference, Ward emphasized that members from “all trade unions” are increasingly receptive to the messages of Reform UK. He indicated a significant disconnect between what Labour represents and the interests of the union’s membership.

“When ‘Your Party’ was announced, we monitored the responses from our members,” Ward stated. “I can say to you truthfully, we haven’t had a single email from a member of our union saying ‘why don’t we disaffiliate with Labour and join Your Party?’ However, we’ve had hundreds, thousands, of people questioning why we were affiliated to the Labour Party and why we weren’t supporting Reform.”

The union leader cautioned Labour leaders that their passive strategy could inadvertently pave the way for a Reform UK victory in upcoming elections. His comments come in the wake of a recent poll predicting a significant Reform majority, positioning Labour for its most devastating electoral defeat since 1931.

Rachel Reeves, a senior Labour figure, asserted that Farage represents the “single greatest threat” to the livelihood of working-class people. During the party’s annual conference, she described Labour as the sole party advocating for the working class, striving to counter the “Brexit big beast” represented by Reform UK.

Chancellor of the Exchequer echoed Reeves’s sentiments, labeling Farage’s agenda as detrimental to living standards and community integrity. “Whatever falsehoods they push, whatever easy answers they peddle, however willing they are to tear communities and families apart, they are not on the side of working people,” he said. He urged party members to unite in what he termed a critical fight that they must win.
